No hesitation, no fetters. Just powerful words, please! We are rookie global citizens!

About the Kids Conference on Global Issues

The North-South problem, gender discrimination, poverty, water etc. …We have a number of problems to be solved now or otherwise we are going to leave these debts and unsolved issues to “future grown-ups= today’s children”. A lot of world delegates have come together to discuss the issues at the United Nations Convention on Environment and Development, so called Rio+20.

However we cannot help but feel impatient to see if they can come up with solutions or take a major step forward. That is why we have created an event, Kids Conference on Global Issues(KCGI)as the start of Kids Initiative. We are hoping as many children as possible can take part in the process as early as possible.

Most of the current global issues have been caused by artificial “borders” of separation and discrimination. Who drew them? We, adults did. If children begin thinking of the issues when their minds are still free from those unreasonable “borders”, they will be ready to make a big difference when they grow up.

The future we want is the borderless and harmonious world where we can live as global citizens in nations as cultural communities. We can begin it now.

Why did we create this website?

20 years ago, in 1992, in the city of Rio de Janeiro,
a twelve year old girl amazed a lot of adults and moved the whole world.
She did it with her powerful words free from hesitation or fetters.

In 2012, we are having another Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro.

In May 2012 there was a micro conference held for Japanese kids.

At the conference they thought through about current global issues and discussed how they, as global citizens, could take an action required by our future and our environment.
On the final day each one of them wrote a letter to the United Nations under the title of “the Future We Want.”

The children did their best to cultivate their sensitivity and finally shaped their ideas into letters.
At that moment the rookie global citizens were born!

“We children today are going to create our future,
the world’s future and the future of the earth.
Why don’t we get active and take our initiative?
It’s our own business.” children said.

We want this massage to ring on and on throughout the world and so we created this website to assist them.
so that these young global citizens can find their comrades everywhere in the world, get to know one another, to share their thoughts, stay connected and make a big movement to change the world.
